What's it like to be an Electrical Project Manager?
Electrical Project Managers oversee large, commercial electrical projects for organisations. They are responsible for managing staff, delegating tasks to team members, monitoring resources and overseeing the full scope of electrical construction and maintenance projects.
Tasks and duties
- Planing, overseeing, managing and directing electrical projects as part of a larger construction project.
- Developing the budget for a project.
- Monitoring costs, material flow and resource allocation.
- Reviewing project documents such as estimates, design drawings, specifications, proposals and contracts.
Electrical Project Managers work closely with Construction Managers, Engineers, Site Forepersons, Electricians, and other technical staff. They ensure the continuous day-to-day operation of a project to solve technical and construction issues.

To become an Electrical Project Manager you generally require bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a similar field. Electrical Project Managers usually also have previous management experience, as well as additional electrical certifications.
- 1.There are a number of different pathways to become an Electrical Engineer. Some tertiary institutions require that you complete a Bachelor of Science first, majoring in electrical engineering, then complete a Master of Engineering. In other cases, you are required to complete a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) (Honours) to become fully qualified.
