Other ways to get into HR

Entry into the HR profession is not always as straightforward as going from school to a university HR degree or TAFE certificate to, ultimately, a HR job. You may start out on a completely different career path and develop an interest in HR or by circumstance end up in HR later in your working life.

The ability to transfer your skills and qualifications from one career path to the other, as well as your personal interest and commitment, will determine whether you need to study HR first.

Volunteering

Volunteer work can be a good opportunity to increase your skills and abilities as it provides such diversity of work experiences. For example, AusAID’s Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development program places young Australian volunteers between 18 and 30 in assignments in developing countries throughout the Asia–Pacific region.

Other ways to qualify:
University courses
Industry-based courses
TAFE courses
