The Complete Personal Training Course consists of the SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness and SIS40221 Certificate IV in Fitness. Please contact AIPT for further details on the course structure.

Entry requirements

For entry into this course students must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Year 12, OR Certificate IV or higher, OR relevant industry experience
  • Minimum 17 years old (if under 18 your enrolment form will need to be signed by a parent or guardian)
  • Permanent Australian Resident or equivalent

Before commencing SIS40221 Certificate IV in Fitness, students are required to complete and be deemed competent in the below units of competency (or superseded units), which are available as part of the SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness:

  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (or a unit that supersedes this unit)
  • HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
  • SISFFIT032 Complete pre-exercise screening and service orientation
  • SISFFIT033 Complete client fitness assessments
  • SISFFIT035 Plan group exercise sessions
  • SISFFIT036 Instruct group exercise sessions
  • SISFFIT040 Develop and instruct gym-based exercise programs for individual clients
  • SISFFIT047 Use anatomy and physiology knowledge to support safe and effective exercise
  • SISFFIT052 Provide healthy eating information

Practical Assessment: Please be aware some of your assessments require you to source participants to role-play clients, please work with your mentor to secure the required number.

Working with Children Check: For the work placement portion of your course, you may need a current 'Working with Children Check Clearance' issued by the relevant authority in your state/territory.

 

RESOURCES REQUIRED

  • Computer: Laptop or desktop computer with working speakers or headphone points
  • Internet: High-speed internet such as Broadband or ADSL, T1/T2, fibre optic (Dial-up access is not recommended)
  • Windows: Operating system – Windows 8 or above
  • Mobile phone with video capability or video camera: Some assessments in your course will require you to take and submit videos of you undertaking tasks for assessment
  • Office equipment: Printer and scanner to pring and upload some of your assessments
  • Internet Browser: Google Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer 11
  • MAC: Operating system - OS X 10.14 Mojave or later
  • Software: Flash, Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word (or Open Office which is free to download)

What to know before you apply

Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

You may be able to get credit or RPL for some units of this course based on your previous studies and work experience. This means the duration of the course may be reduced.

Work placement

Work placement gives you invaluable real-life skills, so you graduate ready to step into a job.

You must complete at least 46 hours of practical placement for the fitness component of this course, as well as an additional 30 practical placement sessions for the nutrition component. Both sets of work placement must take place under the supervision of an appropriately qualified supervisor.

Support and delivery

For the fitness part of this program, you can study online, and complete the practical components in a real gym. 

Choose from three ways to study:

Learn in a small group environment inside one of Australia's leading gyms and be mentored by a real fitness professional.

Undertake 46 hours of face-to-face practical learning following a set timetable.

  • 1-to-1 Flexible Mentor

You'll be matched with one of AIPT's qualified Personal Trainers who will mentor you inside a real club.

Enjoy the flexibility of arranging your own timetable to complete 46 hours of face-to-face practical learning with your Mentor.

Dependant on availability of a mentor in your area.

  • Mentor of Your Choice

If you already know a Personal Trainer, AIPT could approve them to be your Mentor to guide you through the practical components of your course.

Complete 46 hours of face-to-face practical learning at a club of your choice.

Your chosen Mentor must be approved by the Australian Institute of Personal Trainers.

 

For the Diploma of Nutrition, you can study the theoretical elements online anywhere and anytime. You will also need to complete 30 practical placement sessions in a health of fitness workplace under the supervision of an appropriately qualified Supervisor.
