Broadening the tech talent pipeline
SEEK hosts first professional development day for Career Advisors to explore tech career pathways
SEEK recently hosted over 100 Careers Advisors from around Australia for a day-long session in person and online about what a modern career in technology looks like.
In partnership with Code for Schools, the session aimed to provide advisors with real-world, day-in-the-life experience of employees at a multi-national tech company and illustrated the various pathways into a career in the industry.
From software developers to architects, and analysts to product marketers, Australian technology companies require a vast range of skills and people, and the pipeline to employing that talent needs to be widened to meet the evolving and growing demand.
“It is vital to SEEK that we continue to attract and invest in the best talent for the broad range of skills we require now and in the years to come,” says James Ross, Chief Technology Officer, SEEK.
“At SEEK we know that our workforce needs to represent our customers and as such we are committed to encouraging more young people to consider a career in tech.
“As key conduits between the talent of the future and our business, it was fantastic to take the advisors through how we work here at SEEK, and the truly diverse careers our workers can achieve.”
Attendees at the development session were introduced to the Australian and national technology landscape, and new and emerging roles within it. They met with new and established SEEK employees to learn about their career journeys, heard about study pathways from Karin Verspoor, Dean of the School of Computing Technologies at RMIT, and were taken on a tour of SEEK’s Melbourne headquarters.
“Australia faces a shortage of 650,000 tech workers by 2030 and 87% of current Australian jobs require digital literacy,” says Megan Woff, Chief Executive Officer of Code for Schools.
“Through this program, we’re excited to offer Career Advisors industry insights and trends to support student guidance in the rapidly evolving world of tech-driven careers.”
