What's it like to be a Dermal Therapist?
Dermal Therapists have an advanced knowledge of skin and can provide a broad range of treatments. Dermal Therapists perform laser and light-based procedures as well as chemical peels, advanced facials, micro-dermabrasion, skin needling and other facial therapies. They also advise clients on which products to use to treat skin issues, including chronic skin conditions like acne, pigmentation or rosacea.
Tasks and duties
- Consulting with clients and providing assessments, advice and treatment plans.
- Performing non-surgical cosmetic procedures or treatments.
- Recommending and selling skin care products to clients.
- Managing booking systems and other administrative tasks.
How to become a Dermal Therapist
You need a relevant VET qualification or university degree to work as a Dermal Therapist. The course you choose will depend on your career goals and the type of treatments you want to provide.
- 1.Complete a relevant qualification. A Diploma of Beauty Therapy (SHB50115) will allow you to pursue entry-level beauty therapist roles. An Advanced Diploma of Cosmetic Dermal Science (52850WA) prepares you to work in cosmetic medical clinics under the supervision of nurses and doctors. A degree such as a Bachelor of Dermal Science can allow you pursue a broader range of careers, such as Dermal Clinician.
- 2.If your qualification permits, join the Australian Society of Dermal Clinicians to enhance your credentials.
