What's it like to be a JavaScript Developer?
A JavaScript Developer is a Software Developer who specialises in the design, testing and implementation of software using the JavaScript programming language. JavaScript should not to be confused with Java - despite sharing similar names, the two are distinctly different programming languages. JavaScript is a scripting language that enables the user to create dynamic content, control multimedia and animate images, as well as many other functionalities.
Tasks and duties
- Gathering project requirements by liaising with clients and key stakeholders.
- Analysing requirements and designing suitable solutions and features.
- Using computer software and hardware to write, modify and test programming code.
- Testing code for bugs and implementing improvements and fixes.
- Developing testing and validation processes.
- Deploying code to the live environment.
How to become a JavaScript Developer
It is possible to work as a JavaScript Developer without formal qualifications, however employers may prefer individuals to have qualifications in the field of computer science.
- 1.Complete a qualification in Computer Science with a focus on software development. This could be a Diploma of Information Technology (ICT50115) or a Bachelor degree majoring in Software Development.
- 2.Look to secure a placement in an internship program while studying. This will provide you with relevant experience as well as guidance and mentorship from experienced Software Developers.
- 3.Complete an online or in-person course specialising in JavaScript.
