- Loading and unloading metals and other materials.
- Preparing surfaces for sandblasting.
- Selecting and installing sandblasting attachments.
- Operating controls on sandblasting tools and machinery.

- Keeping a tidy workspace and performing general clean-up duties.
How to become a Sandblaster
You don’t need any formal qualifications to work as a Sandblaster. Being physically fit is essential, and some mechanical aptitude may be beneficial. Some employers will require you to hold a forklift licence or other relevant licences to perform certain job activities. A Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification may give you an advantage but is not essential.
- 1.Get your forklift licence by completing a short course at a local Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
- 2.Look for job opportunities with employers in construction and manufacturing, or the painting and automotive trades.
- 3.Consider completing a Certificate III in Surface Preparation and Coating Application (MSM30216). You may be able to complete this as part of a traineeship while working. This usually takes two years.
