What's it like to be a Sitecore Developer?
Sitecore Developers are Software Developers who specialise in working with the Sitecore content management system (CMS). They build and optimise websites, apps and other digital products created with Sitecore technology.
Tasks and duties
- Developing automations for website marketing functions.
- Building multi-channel software integrations.
- Performing data migrations from one website to another.
- Staying updated with changes to the Sitecore platform and associated products.
- Liaising with stakeholders to understand user requirements and determine project scope.
- Developing wireframes to demonstrate new features and user interfaces.
- Maintaining, updating and organising code base.
- Writing and testing code for use in the live environment.
- Finding and fixing bugs and removing bottlenecks to improve software performance.
- Collaborating with managers, designers and other software engineers to design and build new products.
How to become a Sitecore Developer
You can work as a Sitecore Developer without a formal qualification, however coding skills are essential. A relevant degree may be preferred by some employers.
- 1.Complete a Bachelor of Computer Science or Bachelor of Information Technology. This usually takes three years of full-time study.
- 2.Look for internship opportunities while studying to gain workplace experience and mentorship from experienced Software Developers.
- 3.Consider completing postgraduate study, such as the Master of Computer Science or Master of Information Technology. This usually takes one to two years of full-time study.
- 4.Consider completing short courses to develop your knowledge and experience in Sitecore-supported programming languages such as C#, SQL and F#.
