What's it like to be a TAFE Teacher?
A TAFE Techer can sometimes be referred to as a Trainer and Assessor. TAFE Teachers specialise in teaching vocational education courses and training programs to TAFE students. TAFE Teachers also consult with industry partners to ensure students are developing necessary skills and competencies for the workplace. They commonly teach in areas such as automotive, electrical, plumbing, information technology, construction and manufacturing, design, hospitality, tourism and retail.
Tasks and duties
- Teaching students in a field of expertise.
- Training students in classrooms, online environments and workplace settings.
- Developing curriculums, teaching methods and resources.
- Assessing the progress and performance of students.
How to become a TAFE Teacher
To become a qualified TAFE Teacher, you need to have industry experience in the study area you want to teach, as well as a VET qualification in training and assessment.
- 1.Gain industry experience in the field you want to teach. This is referred to as vocational competency.
- 2.Complete a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116). This usually takes around 9 months of part-time study.
