What's it like to be a Village Manager?
Village Managers oversee the daily running of a retirement or workforce community. They lead staff to create a welcoming residential environment, plan and allocate budgets and schedule activities. A Village Manager needs good communication skills and the ability to set and manage a list of priorities. They work in residential and workforce communities for companies in industries such as property and real estate, hospitality, tourism, healthcare and mining.
Tasks and duties
- Planning, coordinating and directing daily operations, scheduling activities and delegating tasks.
- Hiring, training, rostering and leading teams of staff.
- Monitoring performance against key performance indicators.
- Maintaining village staff and resident records.
- Handling resident complaints and enquiries.
- Managing the sales and onboarding process including tours, inductions and departures.
- Planning budgets, authorising spending and contributing to financial reporting.
- Planning and overseeing events and activities for residents.
- Monitoring compliance with relevant legislation.
- Planning marketing activities and attending networking events.

You don’t need formal qualifications to work as a Village Manager, but a tertiary qualification in business management or a similar field may give you an advantage. Managerial experience in a relevant industry such as hospitality or tourism is essential. A driver’s licence is required by some employers.
- 1.Complete a tertiary qualification in business or management, such as a Diploma of Business (BSB50120). This usually takes one year.
- 2.Develop experience leading people in a hospitality, tourism or facilities management role and seek opportunities to take on managerial responsibilities.
- 3.Ensure your IT skills are competent and up-to-date.
