What's it like to be a Project Support Officer?

Project Support Officers often work in public administration and in other industries such as construction and civil engineering.
Tasks and duties
- Responding to enquiries, resolving issues and providing customer service.
- Assisting with the hiring and management of project staff.
- Assisting with the preparation of contracts, policies and project reports.
- Advising Project Managers on work undertaken by contractors, and matters affecting project delivery timelines.
How to become a Project Support Officer
You can work as a Project Support Officer without formal qualifications, but they may be beneficial. Administrative experience is typically preferred by employers. Some on-the-job training may be provided.
- 1.Consider completing a vocational qualification, such as a Certificate IV in Project Management Practice (BSB40920), or a Diploma of Project Management (BSB50820). These courses provide practical skills and knowledge to prepare you for a career in project management. Alternatively, a short course may provide you with basic knowledge and skills.
- 2.Alternatively, complete a bachelor degree in business, commerce, information technology or a related field. This will provide a broader base of knowledge and may provide improved career outcomes. Look for internship opportunities while studying to gain some experience.
- 3.Consider gaining administrative experience in a role such as Executive Assistant.
- 4.With experience and a higher qualification such as a Graduate Certificate in Project Management, you could progress into a senior role as a Project Manager.
