What's it like to be a School Officer?
School Officers provide a variety of administrative assistance to school staff. They assist with daily tasks such as maintaining records of information, data entry, budgeting and communicating information about budgets and workloads to other staff. In some cases, School Officers may support teaching programs. This could include the preparation of learning materials.
Tasks and duties
- Completing administrative tasks as part of daily operations and planning.
- Maintaining records of staff and student information.
- Assisting in recruitment and the onboarding of support staff.
- Assisting with the supervision of support staff.
- Interpreting policies and ensuring requirements are met.
- Performing data entry.
- Supporting teachers with learning programs, if required.
How to become a School Officer
You don’t need any formal qualifications to work as a School Officer, but a relevant qualification may give you an advantage. Computer literacy and administrative experience are desired by some employers. Background checks are essential.
- 1.Complete a relevant qualification, such as a Certificate III in Business (Administration) (BSB30120). This usually takes one year.
- 2.Develop administrative experience in an office-based role using spreadsheets and word processors.
- 3.Complete a Working with Children Check and a Police Check before commencing work at a school.
- 4.Consider further study to broaden your career options. This could be a Diploma of Business (BSB50120), or a bachelor degree in business, accounting or another related field.
