What's it like to be a Warehouse Assistant?
Warehouse Assistants help manage the flow of products and stock through a warehouse. They are usually responsible for receiving and sending goods to and from the warehouse. Warehouse Assistants must be physically fit and able to lift and move stock in a safe manner. Excellent time management skills, attention to detail and communication skills are required to be an effective Warehouse Assistant.Did you find this video helpful?
Tasks and duties
- Receiving, checking, recording, organising and storing stock as it is received.
- Taking inventories of stock and products, ensuring that they are safely and properly stored.
- Dispatching and loading goods out of the warehouse for delivery.
How to become a Warehouse Assistant
Formal qualifications are not required to work as a Warehouse Assistant, as on-the-job training is usually provided. However, experience in the field is highly regarded. A Forklift Licence may be required.
- 1.Gain warehouse experience in the manufacturing or retail industry. Some hirers may prefer you to have a Forklift Licence and/or provide your own personal protective equipment such as a hard hat and steel-capped boots.
- 2.Consider completing a qualification in the field. This could be a Certificate III in Supply Chain Operations (TLI30321).
- 3.There are multiple pathways for Warehouse Assistants seeking career progression. With experience, you could become a Warehouse Supervisor, Warehouse Manager or Operations Manager.
