What's it like to be a Banker?
As a Banker your main task is to arrange loans and investments for clients. Bankers charge interest and fees for the loans and try to maximize the profit of a bank while maintaining appropriate risk levels. The financial industry employs many different types of Bankers, including Personal, Commercial, and Investment Bankers.

- Discussing financial products and service options with customers.
- Assessing a client’s ability to service a loan.
- Negotiating purchases of resources and commodities.
- Arranging insurance for clients.
- Performing financial risk assessments.
- Preparing relevant financial documents.
- Profit estimation and risk analysis.
- Underwriting deals.
- Buying and selling securities.
Personal Bankers (or Retail Bankers) handle all the banking needs of individuals such as arranging mortgages, personal loans and credit cards. They must also analyse the creditworthiness of potential borrowers.Commercial Bankers service business and corporate clients. Services include arranging working capital required for the running of businesses such as for plant and equipment. They must also ensure that the borrowers have capacity to service the loans. Investment bankers are essentially capital raisers for companies. Services may include deciding on the proper mix of debt and equity to use in a capital raise, compliance with government regulations, and restructuring finance.

To worker as a Banker, an employer may require that you hold a tertiary qualification in business, commerce, finance, accounting, or a related field.
- 1.Complete your secondary school certificate.
- 2.Obtain a bachelor degree in business, commerce, accounting or economics, majoring in banking or finance, or in a related field.
- 3.Participate in an internship. Participating in an internship provides prospective Bankers with experience in the field and an understanding of banking policies and regulations.
