What's it like to be a Forklift Driver?
Forklift Drivers operate machinery to stack, unstack, or shift items in warehouses, timber yards, shipping terminals, or factories. They ensure loads are spread evenly and secured to reduce the risk of an accident in the workplace.
Tasks and duties
- Load and unload containers and trucks.
- Transport goods to designated areas.
- Use the correct equipment in a safe and efficient way to minimise damage to stock and equipment.
- Inspect, control and perform minor repairs to reduce wear and damage to forklifts.
How to become a Forklift Driver
To become a Forklift Driver you need a forklift licence. Others requirements may apply depending on your employer, such as a high risk work licence.
- 1.Apply for a forklift licence through a local training provider. Training usually takes around 1–2 days to complete.
- 2.If required, apply for a high risk work licence with the relevant licensing body in your state or territory.
- 3.Consider completing a relevant vocational qualification to broaden your skills. This could be a Certificate III in Supply Chain Operations (TLI30321).
- 4.To advance your career, consider undertaking further study, such as a Diploma of Logistics (TLI50221).
