What’s it like working at MercyCare?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees appreciate the supportive management at MercyCare, with managers who genuinely care about staff development and provide ongoing guidance. The strong organisational culture and values are embedded throughout the organisation, creating an inclusive and diverse workplace where employees feel valued. Staff benefit from professional development opportunities, a comprehensive benefits package including salary sacrificing and wellbeing programmes, and excellent work/life balance with flexibility. Many employees find the work meaningful and rewarding, particularly in making a genuine difference to the lives of clients, residents, and children.

However, there are some potential challenges, such as communication between management and staff that could be improved, particularly around decision-making processes. Some employees have experienced inconsistent team dynamics, with support varying between different teams. Occasionally, senior management decisions are made without consultation with frontline workers. Staffing shortages across various departments can impact workload, and some systems may be outdated, affecting efficiency. A small number of employees have noted that pay rates may not be as competitive as other organisations in the sector.

Would Not Recommend Working Here at All
The good thingsVery flexible work environment and plenty of cafes nearby. Well-presented public image, but very poor management internally.
The challengesLimited accountability from management, often framed as a need for “initiative and proactiveness” alongside disorganised onboarding with minimal guidance. Direction was frequently inconsistent or unclear, with responsibilities often deflected rather than owned, resulting in a lack of clarity and confidence across the team. While there was an emphasis on support and team culture, this was not consistently reflected in practice across all departments. High staff turnover was also persistent and seemed to be intentionally swept under the rug. Overall, stronger leadership accountability, clearer expectations, and more structured support would significantly improve the experience

    Scheduling systems need significant improvement
The good thingsI appreciated having employment and the ability to earn money to provide food on the table
The challengesScheduling was extremely disorganized, with irregular and unpredictable shifts. There seemed to be an oversupply of workers, yet not enough available clients. I also felt that support workers were not treated with sufficient respect, and communication with clients and management could be improved.

Toxic and unsupportive team culture avoid at all costs
The good thingsReception and other teams were welcoming and warm to new starters
The challengesThe team culture was extremely poor, with little guidance or support from leadership. I often felt excluded and left to manage complex work without direction. Lack of timely communication and support made the role unsustainable. Would not recommend!
