What’s it like working at Oral Health Victoria?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Oral Health Victoria appreciate the supportive colleagues and management, who are helpful and approachable, creating a welcoming environment. The graduate dentist program is particularly well-regarded for its structured mentorship, hands-on experience with diverse cases, and guidance from experienced clinicians and specialists. Staff value the learning and development opportunities, including exposure to different specialties and chances to participate in projects. The onboarding process is praised for being smooth and well-organised, whilst the work-life balance and flexibility offered, including hybrid arrangements and generous leave options, are highly valued. The collaborative and inclusive culture encourages teamwork and knowledge sharing.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. Some employees have noted that technology and infrastructure could benefit from upgrades, with paper-based systems still in use in certain areas. The fast-paced nature of the work, particularly in clinical roles and the graduate program, can create a steep learning curve and demanding workload at times. New employees may face a learning curve when adapting to the organisation's multiple systems, policies, and large structure. Additionally, staffing levels can be stretched during busy periods.

Apply with caution - the manager likes to get the minions to do the hard work
The good thingsAbility to discuss cases with other clinicians and access to specialist opinions
The challengesManager should be supporting the team - gloving up and helping when needed ... not ushering you towards another fellow senior clinician. Time allocated for patient care centred is non existent - it is emergency yet the clock dictates care. Awesome by teamwork and support by DAs/ fellow clinicians on the floor.

    Completely destroyed my mental health
The good thingsNothing, working here destroyed my mental health.
The challengesHiring competent managers, this place has such a toxic culture, and no one in management takes any accountability for mistakes. A manager literally told me "I shouldn't have to manage this" about something they definitely did need to manage.

Great team that is forward thinking, stuck in a backward public dental hospital.
The good thingsMy team are very supportive and flexible in my role. Some days can be busy but most of the time everything is pretty relaxed. Hot desking is great.
The challengesWorking with paper where in 2025, most patient file system should be electronic.
