What’s it like working at Queensland Health?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees appreciate the supportive and dedicated colleagues at Queensland Health, with many noting the camaraderie among staff members. The work itself is considered meaningful and rewarding, particularly when engaging with patients and working in specialist areas that provide learning opportunities. Staff value the good pay and benefits, especially for government admin and junior clinical positions, along with flexible working arrangements including hybrid hours and work-from-home options. Training opportunities are above average, with paid study leave available.

However, there are some potential challenges, including concerns about management practices in some areas, with staff noting the need for improved communication and decision-making processes. The work environment can vary across departments, with some experiencing a bureaucratic culture. Workload pressures can be challenging, particularly with nursing staff shortages and the emotionally demanding nature of healthcare work. Some employees have noted that opportunities for advancement can be limited at certain levels, and work-life balance can be difficult to maintain in some roles, with physically demanding work and challenges in securing leave during peak periods.

It taught me about the impact leadership and workplace culture can have on staff.
The good thingsThe pay & flexibility offered
The challengesMy time at FSIP was challenging due to a management environment where I experienced difficult and isolating behaviours and minimal support while commencing in a brand-new role. While it wasn't a positive experience for the majority of my tenure, i did meet a few good people who have experienced similar behaviours from management.

Avoid the histo lab at TPCH Chermside
The good thingsSpecialists and admin staff were lovely to work with
The challengesNot an inclusive or supportive work environment, not work-life balance friendly nor flexible (contrary to what they advertise). Clique-based vibe in the histo lab, with entrenched management. Fine perhaps, if you're extroverted, normative and conservative.
